Review: Closed-Cell Metallic Foams Produced via Powder Metallurgy

The production of closed-cell metallic foams has been interest to the scientific community and industry for decades, owing their unique properties, which include high specific strength stiffness, buoyancy, shock absorption, crash worthiness. One approaches fabrication relies solely on use powders is manifested in what referred as powder metallurgy (PM) route. This review discusses underlying fundamentals process, recent developments together with our current understanding. effect process parameters developed foam structure reviewed a range metals, alloys, metal matrix composites. Fundamental foaming mechanisms characteristics are discussed.
